About: I am one of the founding members of The Software Architecture Group, which evolved from the UIUC patterns group. I am one of the five founders of The Refactory, Inc. --a consortium of object-oriented experts dedicated to helping organizations succeed with objects. I am also a member of the Hillside Group which is dedicated to improving the quality of software and sponsors most of the Pattern conferences.
I am a co-author of the Big Ball of Mud pattern with Brian Foote, which illuminates many fallacies in the approach to software architecture. I have chaired the Pattern Languages of Programming Conference (PLoP), as well as presented tutorials and talks at conferences such as OOPSLA and ECOOP.
I currently resides in Urbana, Illinois where I oversees a team of developers who have constructed an order fulfillment system based on enterprise architecture using the .NET environment. Other recent projects involve working in both the Java and .NET environments deploying Domain-Specific Languages for clients.
I think software is still too hard to change. Therefore I wants to do something about this and believe that putting the ability to change software into the hands of the people with the domain knowledge seems to be one promising avenue to solve this problem, thus my interest in AOMs and DSLs.
